Guide to EMC Directive conformity of equipment designed for military purposes - SEK Teknisk rapport 50538 EMC – Harmonics and flickering in the electricity grid; Radio tests according to Article 3 (2) of the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED) EMC testing and electric tests for vehicles and vehicle components; To perform these EMC tests, the VDE Institute has excellent testing and measurement equipment that ensures quick and efficient testing. EMC Directive Basics: The Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, or EMC Directive 2014/30/EU for short, targets equipment that can generate or be affected by electromagnetic interference signals. Essentially, this covers all electrical equipment with the exception of purely resistive electrical loads. The Automotive EMC Directive recognizes conformity according to the procedures of the EMC Directive and the Radio Equipment Directive (RED). This includes the CE marking for after market ESAs described in category a) above, but additionally requires that the limits of the clauses referenced in Annex 1, clause 3.2.9 of the Automotive EMC Directive are fulfilled. EMC Directive (2004/108/EC) The EMC Directive 2004/108/EC sets the essential protection requirements for electrical and electronic equipment. The EMC Directive limits electromagnetic emissions of equipment in order to ensure that, when used as intended, such equipment does not disturb radio and telecommunication as well as other equipment.
Testing will determine a device’s potential for interfering with other devices nearby, as well as its potential to be interfered with by their electromagnetic emissions, too. EMC phenomena in order to satisfy their specific safety provisions. The EMCD is therefore not a safety related Directive. Functional safety aspects based on electromagnetic disturbances are regulated for instance by the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU and the General Product Safety Directive 2001/95/EC.

The EMC Directive first limits electromagnetic emissions of equipment to ensure that, when used as intended, such equipment does not disturb radio and telecommunication as well as other equipment. The Directive also governs the immunity of such equipment to interference and seeks to ensure that this equipment is not disturbed by radio emissions when used as intended

The EMC Directive is a longstanding EU law subject to periodic revision. The most recent update occurred in 2014, when the Directive was recast to align it with the New Legislative Framework (NLF). The Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations 2006 were revoked on 8 December 2016 but continue to apply to relevant products placed on the market or put into service prior to this date. Published Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 2014/30/EU replaced 2004/108/EC Directive per 20 April 2016 and it is the directive relating to the electromagnetic compatibility of electronic devices. It is the 3rd directive because on 3rd of May, 1989 the directive 2004/108/EC replaced the previous EMC directive 89/336/EEC. EU directive 2004/108/EC (previously 89/336/EEC) on EMC defines the rules for the distribution of electric devices within the European Union.
